Progressive Learning

At Swing Station we believe in growing as we learn - building our ability to move and flow with the music through concepts and technique taught in progressive levels. The Atlantic Blues workshops are built around this belief.

Solo Blues

Additionally we believe that working on solo movement is fundamental to dancing with a partner and so we have solo movement in our partner classes and we’ve also added a whole solo track this year!

We’ve tried to give the best description we can for the levels – we suggest that you ask a teacher from your local scene to help you if you are not sure where you belong. Due to logistics and for the sake of time, we have chosen not to do auditions. However, if the teachers feel you’re not in the right level, they reserve the right to change you accordingly.

Curious about the Blues

You’ve just discovered Blues dancing but have no or very little experience. Maybe you’ve even done a couple of classes, but are not confident in the basics.  So learn them this weekend – how to connect to your partner as well as listen to and move with the music. If you’ve never danced Blues, this is also for you!

Solo Blues

Advanced Solo Blues level

Blues is a dance that emphasizes partner connection and improvisation and offers dancers greater freedom of expression than many other social dances.  As such it is a dance where the ability to solo dance is paramount.  As lovers of Blues dance we have this track for advanced Blues dancers who are are not afraid of working on solo technical elements.

In this track, you’re expected to already have a vocabulary of solo Blues – steps and movement.  You’ve already developed your own style and feel comfortable improvising.  You most likely teach.  You want to be pushed in the way you think about movement and rhythms, routines and improvisation.  You want to be flashy but also subtle – to have presence when you dance and compete.

** If you’re an advanced Solo Jazz dancer this is also the workshop for you to work on adding that flair when the music is slow and sweet, discovering another style that you can add to your solo dance repertoire.
